Quick answers

How long does it take to build ₹1 crore?

It depends on your monthly SIP and the return. At an illustrative 12% a year, ₹15,000 a month takes about 17 years 7 months and ₹25,000 a month takes about 13 years 10 months. Raising your SIP 10% every year shortens it. Put your own numbers in the planner above.

How much SIP do I need for ₹1 crore in 10 years?

About ₹44,700 a month at an illustrative 12% a year, or ₹30,600 to start if you raise it 10% every year. Give it 15 years and it drops to about ₹21,100.

What is a SIP?

A SIP (systematic investment plan) is a fixed amount that leaves your bank account every month and goes into a mutual fund. You choose the amount and the date, and it runs on its own.

Is 12% a year guaranteed?

No. Nothing about market returns is guaranteed, and some years are negative. 12% is an illustration so you can see how the maths works. The planner also lets you try 10% and 8%, and it is wise to plan with the lower ones.
